Summit success on Everest for Ueli Steck and his climbing partner Tenji without using oxygen

Ueli Steck (35) and 21 years old Tenji from Nepal reached the summit of Everest today, May 18, 2012 without using oxygen.

On Thursday May 17, 2012 they reached South Col. From there they reached on Friday, May 18, 2012 the summit of Everest and went back to the South Col from where they will descend to base camp.

Everything run according to Ueli Stecks and Tenjis plan. The last message of Ueli Steck on his homepage www.uelisteck.ch was on May 15, 2012. There he wrote:

„The weather looks great. Tenzing and I will leave base camp tomorrow morning to Camp 2, after a nice breakfast in the sun. We plan to leave on May 17, 2012 late and go straight to Camp 4 where we will have a couple hours rest before we will set off for a summit push around midnight. I hope this time I will not get to cold and reach summit on May 18, 2012 in the morning.“

After last year Ueli Steck had to turn over approx. 100 meters prior to the summit  -also on his way without oxygen - this time everything run perfectly for him.

More information and images will follow the next days.
